- A new booklet has been published by the Leukemia Society of America to help
- children cope with the various emotions that results when fighting leukemia
- and related disease. "I'm Having a Bone Marrow Transplant" is a book designed
- to help children with leukemia and cancer understand what it is like to have a
- bone marrow transplant. This potentially lifesaving medical procedure can
- confine a child in a hospital unit for six weeks or more. The publication is
- in the format of a coloring book, designed to help young patients express
- themselves during the trying times before, during and after the transplant.
- The booklet was originally produced by the University of Florida, Gainesville,
- and was underwritten with the proceeds from the 1991 New York Mets Wives
- Fashion Show, benefiting the New York Chapter. To obtain free copies call the
- Leukemia Society's toll-free information hot line 1-800-955-4LSA, or contact
- the Leukemia Society listed in your local telephone directory. The Society is
- a voluntary, not-for-profit health agency which depends upon public support.
